Reading Frenzy ~ An Independent Press Emporium

New Kid on The Block!

August 02, 2010: Dear Readers,

Well, it finally summer here in Portland, Oregon and another long awaited event is upon us as well -- the opening of Courier Coffee! As many of you may know we lost our beloved coffee/sandwich/pie haven, Half & Half, this spring when the owners sold the everything but the name to Joel Domreis, founder of Courier Coffee.

Joel and Co. have been hard at work completely overhauling the space from top to bottom, building the counter, assembling the furniture and planning the menu for the past three months. This month their hard work pays off! If you liked the coffee at Half & Half you're in luck -- they've been serving Courier for the past few years! You'll also find homemade granola bars, pie & ice cream, coffeecake, and free wifi! They'll continue the tradition of showing artwork, beginning with photography from Gus Van Sant and Paige Powell and they'll be open late on 1st Thursdays, so once again you can get a three-for-one on Oak St. by visiting Reading Frenzy, IPRC and Courier!

We're taking it a little easy this month as we prepare for our 16th anniversary on September 1st, and a jam-packed September! We'll be featuring a show by former Reading Frenzy staffer and Art Prostitute co-founder, Mark Searcy, we're hosting events with the Dill Pickle Club and Alex Wrekk leading up to the 10th Annual Portland Zine Symposium! And we'll will also be launching a couple new Kickstarter projects, so stay tuned!

On August 1st, I had the pleasure of conducting a live interview with Joe Sacco at the Portland Art Museum which almost immediately led to an invite to contribute to a local radio show and an offer to help us produce a podcast of interviews with visiting authors! Not that I need to add another thing to my to do list, but I love the idea of a lasting record of the authors who come through our doors. We shall see...

In the meantime, keep reading!

Your Faithful Proprietress,
Chloe
