Hip-Hop
By Martha Grover
For the purpose of this collection, Martha Grover defines hip hop as
consisting of four elements: b-boying, graffiti, emceeing and
deejaying. From that starting point, she strives to seek out the
dedicated practitioners of all four art forms taking her all over the
city of Portland. Grover, seemingly, avoids touching on the race
subject as her interviewees come from varied ethnicities. By the end,
you will have learned several things in regard to Portland's hip hop
community but it's Grovers introspective writing that bends your ear
and invites you to learn more about her and where she's coming from.
