Reading Frenzy Consignment Update

May 10, 2011:

Dear past, present and future consignors,

Last week we completed the first phase of restructuring our consignment system when we finished entering several hundred accounts into our new computer program! We appreciate your continued patience while we enter phase two, which is catching up with all outstanding accounts dated prior to January 1, 2011. If we have an outstanding balance with you we will contact you individually very soon.

Consignment hours are currently limited to: Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11am-7pm. Unless instructed otherwise, please do not come to the shop to conduct consignment business outside of these hours. Once we feel confident that all staff has been adequately trained we will expand our consignment hours.

Also, it is now unnecessary to check on your balance due or payment. On or around the 10th of every month we will inventory all accounts due (from January 1, 2011 forward) and issue you an email regarding payment and returns. Payments will be available on or around the 15th of the month. You will receive an email letting you know when returns and/or payment will be available. Depending on the amount you will be paid in cash, check or by PayPal if you prefer. Store credit is also an option and you get an extra 5%! Please note: our 90 day consignment period is now being rounded up to the nearest 10th of every month.

Our primary goal is to serve our consignors better by improving communication and keeping up with payments, but it's equally important that our consignors support us by sticking to the system and schedule that we've developed, picking up payment and returns promptly, and regularly restocking titles. It might not seem like a big deal to make special requests or to try to do business outside of our consignment hours, but it almost inevitably takes up extra time and creates unnecessary hassle for us.

Please remember, we are one small shop serving hundreds of consignors and thousands of customers. Systems have a purpose -- to make things run more smoothly and efficiently and we would really appreciate your cooperation while we continue to improve ours.

Thanks for your support!

Nate Orton Draws the Portland Art Museum

Join us tonight for the opening of Nate Orton Does the Portland Art Museum from 6pm-9pm!

For the past seven years, Portland based artist Nate Orton has frequented the Portland Art Museum in order to analyze and draw his favorite and sometimes least favorite master works of the museum's permanent art collection.

For this show, Nate has selected over a dozen paintings and sculptures that have repeatedly caught his eye over the years. Nate draws the original composition while bending (and sometimes diminishing) the meaning, composition and purpose of the old works in order to bring them closer to his own artistic voice.

Orton holds a BFA in studio art/printmaking and has been exhibiting his work throughout Portland since 2005. He's also the publisher of My Day, a sporadically published zine documenting various day trips in works, pictures and ephemera. Much of what he observes on these pedestrian odysseys are reworked into larger drawings and paintings.

You can also check out shows next door at Courier Coffee, and the nearby Grass Hut Corp. (inside Floating World)! Plus the Be Honest Portfolio Review with special guest Jennifer Daniel is right up the street at The Cleaners! Plus free beer from Ninkasi at Reading Frenzy!
